Audio Products FAE – Inside Sales Support

Job Summary:

xMEMS has Reinvented Sound reproduction with the world’s first monolithic Piezo-MEMS µSpeakers. xMEMS µSpeakers are small formfactor, ultra-hi-fidelity speakers used in consumer earbuds (wired and TWS), medical hearing aids and OTC hearing enhancement devices, professional in-ear-monitors for musicians, gaming headsets, VR/AR goggles and other audio wearables. This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative team supporting the VP of Sales and Director of Electroacoustic Engineering in growing xMEMS business in North America and Europe.

In this role, you will be a technical resource to existing customers and first person of contact for new customers. The ideal candidate will be building friendly relationships with customer and technical partners. This position requires excellent communication skills, patience and promptly completion of time-sensitive actions items.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist customers in understanding xMEMS products by providing technical guidance, reviewing datasheets, sharing reference designs, supporting sample testing, teaching from xMEMS electroacoustic design guide.
  • Technically qualify customer applications and needs, document requests/inquires in Salesforce.
  • Provide best practices for acoustic design and DSP tuning of xMEMS products to design/manufacturing partners.
  • Troubleshoot problems customers may be experience when testing xMEMS samples, using evaluation kits or designing and building products.
  • Process samples orders, track internal fulfilment, provide required literature, notify customers upon shipment.
  • Give presentations on xMEMS products and technology.
  • Conduct audio testing using 711 ear coupler and HATs with Soundcheck, measure xMEMS products, evaluation kits/samples and test competitive products.
  • Work collaboratively with both customers and internal teams to support ad hoc technical projects.
  • Maintain local sample inventory of test coupons, evaluation kits and literature.
  • Collaborate with other internal teams to share inputs from your experiences supporting customers.
  • Contribute your ideas.
  • 3+ years of hands-on audio test or audio production or audio broadcast experience.
  • Experience using some or all…multimeter, sound pressure level meter, configuring audio interface, adjust DSP tools, run acoustic test equipment from B&K, GRAS, Audio Precision, Listen Inc. (Soundcheck) or similar.
  • Previous experience providing first level technical support and basic audio systems troubleshooting.
  • Critical listening skills and sound quality evaluation experience.
  • Experienced setting up and operating audio equipment including mixers, amplifiers, equalizers, compressors.

Acoustic Engineer (Santa Clara, CA)

Job Summary:

xMEMS is Reinventing Sound with the world’s first monolithic MEMS microspeakers for consumer audio devices. This is a unique opportunity to help lead the transition in sound production from century-old coil- based speakers to solid state MEMS.

This is an entirely new transduction mechanism with unique, never-before-seen characteristics. As the Acoustic Engineer you will be performing design and analysis to support the development of personal audio system prototypes and design guidelines that the world’s leading consumer electronics OEMs will use to define their products that use xMEMS microspeakers.

This position leads all phases from concept to system prototype design. Assignments are broad in nature, requiring appreciable initiative, originality, ingenuity, and strong problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have excellent analysis skills, advanced acoustic engineering experience, and a good understanding of consumer earbud design. This is an opportunity to join an elite systems engineering team of mechanical, DSP and electrical engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigate and develop acoustic system design concepts to achieve microspeaker and overall system product performance requirements (frequency response, THD, idle noise, gain before feedback, etc.)
  • Use simulation tools to predict acoustic system behavior
  • Define, build, and characterize physical prototypes of acoustic systems
  • Work directly with DSP and mechanical engineers to tune and optimize system performance
  • Create engineering documentation to support the definition, design, and performance of personal audio products and technologies with MEMS microspeakers.
  • Collaborate with microspeaker R&D to apply system acoustic requirements into next-generation xMEMS products
  • BS required in Acoustical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, MS preferred
  • 7+ years of direct acoustic design experience of wearable audio products
  • 3+ years of hands-on acoustic test experience
  • Solid understanding of headphone acoustic structures and enclosure/porting design
  • Experience with either active noise cancellation, spatial audio, or hearing assistance technologies is highly desirable
  • Solid understanding of acoustic test, measurement systems and techniques
  • Experience using acoustic test equipment from B&K, GRAS, Audio Precision, Listen Inc. (SoundCheck), and others
  • Experience specifying requirements for acoustic component including drivers, microphones, and acoustic meshes
  • Basic understanding of transducer design, lumped parameter models, micro drivers, and microphones
  • Proficient in acoustic modeling with PSpice, COMSOL or other similar tools
  • Proficient using Matlab for data analysis and visualization
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with Mechanical/Electrical engineers, DSP engineers, and 3rd parties including end-customers and/or ODM/CM partners.
  • Outstanding technical problem solver, with ability to scope out, plan, and lead others to investigate and solve challenging problems
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Comfortable with reading and writing detailed technical specifications
  • Ability to adapt to constantly evolving constraints and requirements, while maintaining the highest performance standards
  • Knowledge of psychoacoustics and sound quality evaluation
  • Critical Listening skills with a passion for music and audio
