Innovation Is Only Real When It Ships

Over the years, my team has often asked me a simple question: Why choose such a difficult problem to solve? 

It is a fair question. 

The technologies that change industries rarely come easily. The path is longer, the risks are higher, and success is never guaranteed. Yet my answer has always remained the same: if we do not pursue these challenges, entire industries may miss important breakthroughs, and the world may miss technologies capable of enabling the next generation of innovation. That belief has guided our journey from the beginning. 

When many people think about technology innovation, they focus on invention, the breakthrough idea, the new architecture, or the technical achievement that captures attention. Those moments matter, but they are only the starting point. 

Innovation is only meaningful when it moves beyond the laboratory and reaches the people and industries it was intended to serve. We did not build xMEMS to prove that something was possible. We built it to transform what is practical. That distinction is important. 

Creating a prototype is an achievement. Creating a technology platform capable of manufacturing at scale is something entirely different. The industry does not advance through demonstrations alone. It advances when breakthrough technologies can be produced reliably, consistently, and economically at volumes measured in millions of units. That has been one of our greatest challenges and one of our proudest accomplishments. 

For years, our teams have worked to industrialize technologies that many believe would be difficult to manufacture at scale. Building the device itself was only part of the equation. The larger challenge was developing the complete ecosystem required to support high-volume production. Today, as an example, we have shipped over 800,000 units of our MEMS microspeakers in two-way speaker designs, a milestone that represents years of engineering, investment, and perseverance. This is why I often remind our teams that our differentiation extends far beyond the device. 

In the semiconductor industry, it is easy to become captivated by a single innovation or technology breakthrough. But customers do not adopt technologies because of one invention alone. They adopt complete solutions that can be manufactured, tested, packaged, qualified, and delivered reliably over time. 

A true competitive advantage is built across the entire value chain. 

At xMEMS, our expertise encompasses much more than a single technology platform. Our patented technologies include device architecture, testing methodologies, advanced packaging, manufacturing processes, and the infrastructure required to bring these innovations into mass production. Together, these capabilities create a foundation that is difficult to replicate and essential for scaling next-generation technologies. As the industry enters the era of AI-native devices, this distinction becomes increasingly important. 

Future products will demand smaller footprints, greater efficiency, higher reliability, and unprecedented integration. Meeting those requirements will not be accomplished through a single breakthrough component. It will require innovation across the entire development and manufacturing ecosystem. 

The companies that succeed in the next decade will not simply invent new technologies. They will build the capabilities required to deliver those technologies on a global scale. That has always been our vision and now it’s becoming a reality.  

We are proud of the devices we create. We are equally proud of the testing, packaging, manufacturing, and operational expertise that enables those innovations to reach the market in the upcoming months.  

Because at the end of the day, technology only changes the world when it can be produced, deployed, and adopted at scale. 

Innovation matters. But innovation that ships changes industries.
